Challenge.

Following on from a successful Olympic bid the Beijing district government embarked on the ambitious project of developing a new high speed line from Beijing to Zhangzhakou to host the 2022 Winter Olympic games.

The new line required the development of China’s most advanced rolling stock platform and so the tender was issued to rolling stock manufacturers across China.

The challenge - to support the client and help them to win this once in a lifetime project.

Approach

Detailed bid development work was conducted in collaboration with CRC Changchun to bring together the proposal, resulting in a winning submission for the prominent rolling stock manufacturer.

Following the winning bid Fordyno’s industrial design team worked closely with CRC Changchun’s internal design team to develop several exterior and drivers cab concepts embodying the Fuxing philosophy.

Following this the preferred design was taken in to detailed design to ensure technical and engineering compliance whilst retaining the design intent established with the concept design phase.

Collaboration.

Fordyno’s team worked closely with CRC’s in house designers, engineers and external suppliers.

The long streamlined shape meant that collectively we collaborated with manufacturing and suppliers to overcome the technical challenges the final form presented, ensuring that the design intent that the end client had chosen remained true to form.

An award winning conclusion.

The CR400BF-C went on to win a coveted Red Star Design Award.

The platform is capable of autonomous operation, with a top speed of 350km/h making the CR400BF-C one of the most technically advanced bullet trains current in service. The trains entered revenue service in December 2019 with the opening of the Beijing - Zhangjiakou ICR.
